Paul Chryst bet the farm and lost this week.
Chryst was interviewed for the coveted offensive coordinator slot at the University of Texas, where he reportedly would have been given a hefty raise of up to $1,000,000 a year (per sources). Reports started surfacing that it was nearly a done deal, until the Pittsburgh head coaching position opened up and Chryst voiced interest.
Mack apparently lost interest in Chryst.
Texas was not interested in playing the waiting game, so they went back to Boise State’s Bryan Harsin, and it looks like the Horns have their man.
Chryst, on the other hand, is reportedly not in the running for the Pittsburgh job.
Oh well, Paul. I guess you can still shovel snow in Madison with your $361,554 salary. It’s definitely not peanuts, but a far cry from a million.
UPDATE 4:06PM: Sources say that Wisconsin offensive line coach Bob Bostad is heading to Austin in the next 48 hours to interview for the vacant offensive line coach position. This would be another crucial blow to Chryst’s gamble if Bostad accepts, as he was a crucial piece to Wisconsin’s running attack.
