This past week proved to be a good one for the Big XII Conference. Oklahoma and Kansas knocked off top 25 opponents. Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor and Missouri easily dispatched their over-matched foes. There were some concerns for some Big XII powers, however, as Colorado and Iowa State were absolutely humiliated by their opponents.

1. Texas Longhorns

They are still trying to find an identity offensively, and at times defensively, but this team still has to be given the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. That time may come this weekend in Lubbock as the Horns take on rival Texas Tech.

2. Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma absolutely humiliated top 25 foe Florida State this past week in Norman. This is great news to the Boomer Sooner faithful, as Oklahoma struggled mightily week 1 against Utah State.

3. Nebraska Cornhuskers

How good is Nebraska’s defense? Well, ask Idaho what they think after Nebraska’s defense forced 6 turnovers this past Saturday. Nebraska has some holes to fill, though, as they turned the ball over 4 times themselves.

4. Texas A&M Aggies

How crazy does it sound that after 2 weeks, the Big XII leader in passing is NOT from Texas Tech? Well, get used to it, because Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson will continue to impress this season.

5. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Some of us were under the false assumption that since Tuberville became coach, the Red Raiders would switch to a more conservative style of offense. Well, we were wrong. Through 2 games, Texas Tech is #11 in passing yards per game, and putting up 43.5ppg. Not bad for a coach known for conservative running teams.

6. Baylor Bears

Robert Griffin III has started where he left off in his fantastic 2008 freshman season. Through 2 games he has 539yds passing, 4tds, 1int, 86yds rushing with 3tds. His teammates aren’t doing so bad themselves either. Baylor’s defense has allowed a grand total of 9pts thus far.

7. Missouri Tigers

Missouri is off to a decent start this season, with a victory over Illinois in week 1 and a thorough trouncing of FCS McNeese St. last week. Gabbert is providing valuable leadership to the Tigers thus far, and the Tigers will definitely need it. They have a nasty 4 week schedule coming up in October: @A&M, OU, @NEB, @TTU.

8. Kansas Jayhawks

What a difference one week made for KU. After a humiliating defeat the previous week to FCS North Dakota St., KU managed to upset #15 Georgia Tech in Lawrence. Didn’t see that one coming.

9. Kansas State Wildcats

I was tempted to put KState higher on the power rankings, and they definitely have an argument to AT LEAST be ahead of Kansas, but I just couldn’t bring myself to put KSU ahead of a team that just knocked off a top 25 team. Not to worry, Wildcat fans, y’all have been performing quite nicely thus far. Wins over UCLA and FCS Missouri State are a good start to the Wildcats’ season.

10. Oklahoma State

Undefeated at 2-0. Not a lot else I can say about the Cowboys.

11. Iowa State

Not a lot to be excited about in Ames right now. They were absolutely humiliated by arch rival Iowa this past week, and from what I have seen they will continue that trend as this season progresses.

12. Colorado

This has proven to be one terrible year thus far for Colorado. After their blunder of a miscalculation in moving west to the Pac10, they suffered a HUGE financial penalty that their cash strapped university will have trouble paying as is. The Buffaloes got their first glimpse of what play will be like in the Pac10. 52-7
