Sources from ESPN have confirmed that Temple head coach Al Golden has verbally agreed to be the next head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.
Golden would replace Randy Shannon who was fired after a disappointing 7-5 season. Golden is coming off one of the finest years in Temple’s recent history. The Owls finished 8-4 and have won 19 games in the last two seasons. Despite the 8-4 record, the Temple Owls were not selected to play in a bowl game this postseason. In addition, the Owls beat the University of Connecticut this season. The Huskies won the Big East and will be playing in the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma.
Golden fits the academic profile of a coach that Miami desires. Temple’s Academic Progress Rating improved in drastic fashion under Golden during his tenure as head coach at Temple.
Details of the agreed to contract are unknown.
