With roughly 20 games left in the regular season, there are some intense races heating up in the National League. The San Diego Padres, once running away with the division, now have two teams (Giants and Rockies) breathing down their necks. The Braves have given up first place to the Phillies but are still in the wild card hunt. The American League has pretty much been determined in terms of the playoff teams. The only mystery there is who will win the AL East. So let’s get to the MLB Power Rankings!

1. Minnesota Twins

They’ve won 8 of their last 10 and are simply the hottest team in the AL, trailing the Yankees by 2 games for the league’s best record. They have built a 6-game lead, which is huge for the middle of September. The Twins can lock up their division if they win their next series, which happens to be against the White Sox.

2. New York Yankees

They’re slumping, as they’ve lost 6 of their last 7 games. Seven of their next ten games are against the Rays.

3. Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays trail the Yankees by just half a game and are lucky New York is slumping, because the Rays aren’t playing exceptionally well either. As mentioned above, the Rays face the Yankees in seven of their next ten games. The division title is on the line here.

4. Philadelphia Phillies

They’ve won seven of their last ten to take over the division lead. They face the Marlins and Nationals before the important series against Atlanta.

5. Atlanta Braves

They’re now the wild card leaders instead of the NL East leaders. They need to do a better job of beating the teams they should beat. Losing series to the Marlins and Pirates won’t get the job done. They face the Nationals and Mets before going to Philadelphia.

6. Texas Rangers

They have won five in a row and now hold an 8.5-game lead over the Athletics. They have home games this week against the Tigers before going on the road to face their divisional opponents.

7. Cincinnati Reds

They hold a six-game lead over the Cardinals despite losing 7 of their past 10 games. Luckily for them, they have seven games against the Diamondbacks and Astros coming up.

8. Colorado Rockies

The hottest team in baseball has made the NL West and Wild Card races interesting. Winners of 10 in a row, they’re just 1.5 games back of the Padres (and Giants), whom they play a three-game series against starting today.

9. San Francisco Giants

They’ve won seven of their last ten and are now tied for the NL West with the Padres. They have Colorado right behind them too. The Giants face the Dodgers and Brewers this week.

10. San Diego Padres

They lead the division with the most excitement in baseball. They just lost 3 of 4 to the Giants and are now tied with them. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier, as they begin a 10-game road trip against the Rockies, Cardinals, and Dodgers.
