There’s a rumor flying around that the New England Patriots are interested in bringing Deion Branch back to the team where he had the most success. Branch had a historic Super Bowl performance by reeling in 11 catches for 133 yards in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The year before, he had an amazing Super Bowl performance as he caught 10 balls for 143 yards in a win over the Panthers. He didn’t get the contract he desired, so the Patriots dealt the receiver to the Seattle Seahawks on September 11th, 2006 for a first-round pick. That pick was eventually used to draft standout safety Brandon Meriweather.

The New England Patriots are certainly lacking an impact wide receiver to line up on the other side of Wes Welker. Deion Branch is familiar with the Patriots system and understands the expectations of winning a Super Bowl. The hurdle would likely be to restructure Branch’s contract, as he’s due to make $5.47 million. As a Patriots fan, I have to wonder what Deion Branch has left in the tank at this point, as he’s 31 years old and hasn’t been productive since he left New England. One thing is for certain: Tom Brady and Deion Branch did have chemistry together.
