LeBron James and Blake Griffin in the 2011 NBA Dunk Contest? It appears the possibility exists after all.
Blake Griffin has already claimed his desire to compete if the NBA comes calling. Now LeBron James is apparently torn between his own desire to compete and the potential risks involved.
Look, I’m not going to claim that everything LeBron says is intelligent, educated, or innocent - I’m here to talk about what’s been said, not to speculate whether he’s toying with us again or not.
And what’s been said is pretty darn interesting.
According to a report on Sports Illustrated’s website LeBron is currently waffling between deciding to enter or withdrawing because of the potential wear and tear on his body. He also stated that competing against Blake Griffin would be a challenge.

Of course, LeBron stated after the 2009 contest that he would compete and backed out but something tells me a dunkfest against Blake appeals to James this year much more than a potential clash with Dwight Howard in years past.
Do I sense a bit of jealousy over all the attention being thrown in Griffin’s direction?
Blake Griffin committed verbally to competing earlier this month. You can read the Q&A session with NBA.com by CLICKING HERE.
A small excerpt from the above interview:
***Griffin said, “That would be cool. If it’s something that the league wants me to do, I’ll probably try to do it. ***
Griffin said he is undefeated in dunk contests in his career.
“I haven’t done one at a level as high as this one,” Griffin said. “I did the McDonald’s All-America contest when I was in high school. And I did a couple other small ones in Oklahoma.”
If these two indeed invade the dunk contest next year the sparks will fly and the hype will be absolutely freakin’ outrageous. For the first time since Vince Carter rocked our world the competition will become a “must see” event.
I’m not a LeBron James fan by any stretch of the imagination but even I have to admit my eyes would be glued to the tube.
They are both different types of jam artists, of course.
LeBron slams it home with a rare combination of grace, style, and explosiveness - the kind of aerial show the likes of Jordan, Erving, and Baylor would no doubt appreciate.
Griffin? Jaw dropping, jet-pulverizing power that you need to watch over and over again to truly appreciate. How in the world does he seemingly PAUSE in mid-air, judge if he needs more height on an already insane jump, and flush it down with so much power that I’d be afraid of my head being torn apart by the ball’s velocity.
I get the chills thinking about this matchup, can’t you tell?

Who would win this tantalizing matchup?
Does that even matter?!
I’m not holding my breath but I’m hoping this happens.
