If Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon were still alive today, they would have their work cut out for them to retain the title of “Odd Couple” from Jeff Fisher and Vince Young.
National blowhards are quickly circling their wagons around Vince Young, and they’re all screaming for his head. ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky’s blog was pretty distasteful, and at times absolutely deplorable in the kind of language he was using to describe Vince Young. All of these blowhards are taking Jeff Fisher’s word as fact, despite multiple sources disputing what Fisher has stated to date.
Do we so easily forget Fisher acting similarly 2 years ago when he leaked that Young was committing suicide, when it was later proven that he was eating wings with longtime friend/mentor Steve McNair?
The way Vince Young handled himself yesterday was inexcusable, but given the “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” mentality in Nashville, I can’t blame him. Jeff Fisher leaked to his blowhard friends Peter King of SI and Paul Kuharsky of ESPN that Vince Young wasn’t trying hard enough, and that he could have played injured.
Well, yesterday afternoon Young did everything he could to get back in the game and save what was left of the Titans’ season, but Jeff Fisher decided he would rather let garbage-time rookie QB Rusty Smith play, and it backfired on him.
Would anyone really argue that Vince Young, even at 70%, couldn’t manage the offense better than a lowly 3rd-string rookie quarterback? Wow, that’s some stellar coaching, Jeff. No wonder you’re barely over .500 in your 17 years with the organization.
Jeff Fisher knew he was about to take some heat for his decision at quarterback, so he did the only thing he could do — run to the media to get his story out first about Vince Young.
Whatever happened between Fisher and Vince Young should have remained in the Titans organization, and not been aired out on national television like Jerry Springer.
Shame on you, Jeff Fisher. I hope your days in Nashville are numbered.
