The NFL regular season is coming down to the wire now, and the MVP candidates have little room for error if they want to capture the prestigious award that Peyton Manning has won the past two seasons. The last person to win it before Peyton was Tom Brady in 2007, and he’s on track to win it again. In a snowstorm, Brady led his Patriots to a convincing 36-7 win over the Chicago Bears. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan led the Falcons to an easy win over the Carolina Panthers, despite having a mediocre performance. Michael Vick had a subpar game against the Cowboys, but prevailed with a victory. Drew Brees kept the Saints’ winning streak alive with a win over the Rams. Philip Rivers makes his way back onto the list by leading the Chargers to a blowout win over the Chiefs.
1. Tom Brady
11-2 record, 3,398 passing yards, 66.8%, 29 TD, 4 INT, 21 sacks, 1 fumble lost, 1 rushing TD, 109.9 rating. Tom threw for 369 yards in a big road win over Chicago in a snowstorm. He’ll face the Packers at home on Sunday night.
2. Matt Ryan
11-2 record, 3,147 passing yards, 63.2%, 22 TD, 8 INT, 20 sacks, 3 fumbles lost, 90.7 rating. Matt had his second mediocre performance in a row, and if he has another, he’ll drop down the ranks. The Falcons will be on the road in Seattle this weekend.
3. Michael Vick
7-2 record, 2,513 passing yards, 63.6%, 17 TD, 4 INT, 25 sacks, 1 fumble lost, 104.3 rating, 483 yards rushing, 7 TD. He had an OK performance in Dallas, but could move up to #2 on this list soon. He’ll be playing a huge game on the road against the Giants this weekend.
4. Drew Brees
10-3 record, 3,855 passing yards, 69.0%, 28 TD, 18 INT, 18 sacks, 1 fumble lost, 93.6 rating. Drew had an unimpressive game against the Rams, for his standards. He’ll face the Ravens on the road this weekend.
5. Philip Rivers
7-6 record, 3,868 passing yards, 66.1%, 26 TD, 11 INT, 31 sacks, 4 fumbles lost, 103.1 rating. Philip played well in the rout over the Chiefs, keeping the Chargers’ playoff hopes alive. He’ll face the 49ers at home this weekend.
On the bubble: Jamaal Charles, Aaron Rodgers, Maurice Jones Drew, Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco
