****Brad Childress was in Cincinnati on Thursday night and had dinner with Marvin Lewis. This could mean he is in town to interview for the offensive coordinator job or he could just be stuck in the snowstorm that hit the greater Cincinnati area. I would say speaking for every fan that they hope he is here to interview for the job and not stuck in the snowstorm. If you had to poll every Cincinnati Bengals fan if they should fire Bob Bratkowski, then firing him would win like Obama did in the elections. Fans have been clamoring for the Bengals to fire Bratkowski for the last three years. Every fan is hoping this is the year and to tell you the truth I am one of them. The offense changes year to year and has no real identity and the play calling is more predictable than pro wrestling. The best example would be the 2009 season where the formula was run the ball, play defense and control field position. The formula produced a 10-6 record, clean sweep of the division and a playoff berth. Much to the dismay of fans the whole philosophy changed and they passed almost 200 more times than they ran the ball. That formula produced a 4-12 season and the fourth pick in the draft. The team has to have an identity and the identity should be run the ball and play defense and Brad Childress would be a great fit for that. He runs a west coast system but it’s a primarily run based offense. The connections are there with Marvin and Brad being good friends and working together on the USO/NFL tour and Childress being a longtime friend of the Zimmer family. Childress could be a great fit for the Bengals with the amount of young players on offense there is to develop. Childress has a great track record with developing players such as Adrian Peterson, Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin and the one player everybody forgets about Donovan McNabb. He has the ability to make good players great and that’s the one thing Bratkowski could never do in his time here. Childress doesn’t come without controversy, the public battle with Brett Favre, the Randy Moss situation and the poor development of Tavaris Jackson. Nobody is perfect especially in the NFL so do his accomplishments outweigh his negatives? Depending how you look at it you could say the Brett Favre situation was a soap opera nobody could handle, Tavaris Jackson was just simply a mistake and the Randy Moss situation was just the coach standing up for his team and not allowing Randy Moss to ruin it further. Everybody has their own opinions and will either be on board with it or not but with a no nonsense coach like Childress wouldn’t he be a great fit in Cincinnati that needs a coach that will hold his players accountable for their actions.
