The highly anticipated season opener between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat didn’t disappoint. The Celtics walked away with a victory, leaving the Heat trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh realizing they had work to do. The perfect season was washed away. The Lakers got off to a good start with a win over Yao Ming and the Rockets. I am going to do these power rankings a little differently than usual. The teams that have gotten off to a slow start will have to earn their way into the top 10. There are some lousy teams that have gotten off to a good start and may appear in the top 10. You can get flustered all you’d like, but remember, it’s early and the top teams will be in the top 10 sooner rather than later.
The Rankings
1. LA Lakers: They’re the defending champs and remain undefeated.
2. Miami Heat: After losing to Boston, they’ve won 3 in a row.
3. Atlanta Hawks: The only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference, averaging an eye-opening 107 ppg. They just signed Al Horford to a 5/60 contract.
4. New Orleans Hornets: They’re undefeated and playing well. A big win at San Antonio proves they’re capable.
5. Boston Celtics: They’ve looked good and bad this year. However, they did beat the Heat.
6. Dallas Mavericks: They’re playing defense, wow.
7. Portland Trailblazers: They lead the Northwest Division and should be very good this year.
8. Sacramento Kings: They have won three of four and face the Lakers next.
9. Denver Nuggets: They’ll be solid this year, but will Carmelo finish with them?
10. Chicago Bulls: They’re above average offensively and defensively.
