Michael Jordan’s son Marcus Jordan scored twenty-six points (22 in the second half) on a sore left ankle and pushed the University of Central Florida past the Princeton Tigers 68-62 to keep Central Florida’s undefeated streak intact at thirteen games.
Why am I writing about a college basketball player when I’m pretty much addicted to the NBA and nothing else?
Because this is the offspring of the greatest player of all-time we’re talking about here! Isn’t that reason enough?
Of course, Marcus Jordan would be making waves even if his father were not the legendary MJ and I figured I would show him some love here at TSJ despite not featuring college basketball regularly.
By the way, I’m not going to claim that I follow college basketball religiously which is why I’m writing about Marcus Jordan and not Syracuse or Villanova.
Jordan has UCF undefeated, number 21 in the country, and led the Knights to their first-ever win over a top-20 team on December 1, 2010 against Florida (No. 16 at the time), scoring eighteen points and PERFORMING THIS SWEET MOVE in the process.
Jordan scored a season-high 28 points on 8-11 shooting in the Knights first game of the season, a 115-61 rout of West Florida. Those 115 points were the most for UCF since the 1992-93 season. UCF also defeated the Miami Hurricanes 84-78 on December 18, 2010 in the Orange Bowl Classic behind 23 points from Jordan, who injured his ankle with 84 seconds left in the game.
I would be inconsiderate if I didn’t include praise for sophmore Keith Clanton who is the Knight’s leading scorer at 16.1 points and pulls down 8.8 boards per night as well.
The start for UCF is even more intriguing because they have NEVER made a Final Four appearance and are 0-4 in the NCAA tournament in school history. Their last appearance in the tournament came in 2005 where they lost 77-71 to Connecticut.
Jordan is averaging 16.0 points on .501 shooting from the floor with 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per contest - not exactly Jordanesque numbers but there’s still time.
Besides, Michael Jordan averaged *just *17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists during his college career at North Carolina and look what happened to him.
