I have written multiple articles about Carmelo Anthony over the past few months. Editorials on possible destinations, idle situations and trade rumors and frankly I’m sick of it. I don’t even like him. Alright, he’s a good player, but I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Melo is a selfish scorer that doesn’t play any defense and cares more about playing in a big city market, endorsement deals and money more than winning.
The whole “Melo-drama” situation has grown old and spoiled. Nothing you read online, watch on television or hear on the radio has any substance anymore because either the Nuggets are asking for too much or Carmelo doesn’t want to sign an extension. So I promise you this will be the last piece I write on the subject unless a trade happens or he signs an extension.
The NBA All-Star Weekend is upon us and it was supposed to showcase the league’s top talent, highlighted by Blake Griffin who will participate in the Rookie Challenge, Slam Dunk Contest and All-Star game. However, once again Carmelo has stole the show with even more trade rumors, meetings with the owners of the New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks and interviews with the media and Craig Sager acting like little girls trying to get the latest gossip.
Earlier today, the Nets jumped back into the Melo sweepstake tentatively agreeing on a deal that would send Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Melvin Ely, and Renaldo Balkman to the New Jersey Nets for prized rookie Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first round draft picks. Yes, I said FOUR FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS.
This agreed deal put the pressure back on the Knicks. And at halftime of the Rookie Challenge the New York Post reported the Knicks countered offering Denver Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry and a first round pick for Anthony and Billups.
Carmelo has said that he wants to play for a contender, but both purposed deals don’t put him in a better situation than he has in Denver. Everyone knows that Anthony wants to play for the Knicks. While the stress he’s putting on the Knicks to trade for him now demonstrates he wants to take the money and run. With the collective bargaining agreement up at the end of the season, Anthony is set to lose millions.
Carmelo if you really care about winning, wait till the end of the season and go to the Knicks this summer. If not, take the extension that’s on the table in Denver and let LaLa go on a shopping spree because TRL isn’t coming back anytime soon.
